My course works by credits. You are assigned between 3 to 6 credits a class. Each class is stand-alone but you can make work cross over. Exchange students are only meant to do 12 credits but you can talk them into letting you do 18+. I’m currently doing 15.

I’m doing Documentary Practices, Sound Essentials (where I learn pro tools!!), Video Studio and Experimental Practices.

But whats really cool is that I can audit a class, which means I can just sit in for classes, even though I don’t submit work or get graded. I just go in and soak up all the knowledge for free. So I am currently a voyeur in Writing Art Criticism, Creative Writing, Digital Illustration, Advanced Sound Projects and probably a whole heap of other shit next week.

Writing Criticism is great. Seemed to cover a lot of topics we did in Visual Culture in NCAD but the reading list is completely different, there’s not even one crossover. AND you are expected to read the books for the class and spend $150 on them so the lecturer doesn’t get sued for photocopying. So it’s just as well I didn’t get off the waitlist for that.

Class sizes are really small and each class operates like a seminar and the teacher knows your name. It’s personal and works really well. The only downside is that I have no studio.
