This is an 8bit tune I am making. I stole The Aupair’s drums from their cover of David Bowie’s Repetition. Luv and miss you Vinny Club! Anybody want to whip up a split of 8bit pop tunes before I grow bored of the genre?

Sloop John B is a folk song that originated in the West Indies. Over the years it travelled to America where it was eventually covered by The Beach Boys. This made the song world famous and inspired a myriad of covers in different genres. In 2007 it was made the anthem for F.C. United of Manchester and then it travelled over the border to Glasgow, where it became a racist and sectarian song against Celtic fans and Irish people, changing the lyrics from “I feel so broke up, I want to go home” to “The Famine is over, why don’t you go home?”. It’s an interesting study of how a folk song completely loses it’s roots, how colonialism is forgotten and folklore in contemporary culture can never “go home”.

Sampling The Third Policeman using protools. made the sound effects in the studio. This is for an intermediate sound course I really shouldn’t be in but no ones complaining or crying, yet.
